I recently attended a certification course for USATF. It was a very informative learning experience and one case study sticks out. I've shared it with a number of people already and I'm going to share it with you here.
The study goes that a small group of track athletes from a major college were split into three groups. The first group was given a time when they needed to wake up every morning. The second group was given a time when they needed to go to bed. The third group had no rules around their sleep patterns.
The group that had the fastest times on the track and showed the best marks in the classroom were the athletes from group two, the group that had a bedtime.
Why? It all goes back to planning and being proactive with creating healthy patterns in our lives to set us up best for success. I don't know about you but when I'm sleep deprived or even sub optimal on the amount or quality of sleep I'm getting, it shows up everywhere in my life.
