How people spend their weekends does matter. We have conditioned people to work during the week and let it all go on the weekends. This makes no sense to me. We have one life and it's not split into M-F and Saturday,Sunday.
Let's look quickly at two scenarios. One is an environment where we talk all about partying and how wasted we can get on the weekend and the other is one where we talk about all of the healthy choices we have the opportunity to make on the weekend. If I'm working with other people, do I want to spend my time living someone else's hangover or do I want to spend my Monday and Tuesday morning being super productive because my coworker/employee spent their "weekend" recharging their batteries by eating healthy foods and getting adequate rest.
If I'm an employer, I want the conversation around the water cooler to be, not defending the embarrassing pictures posted on Facebook both Friday and Saturday night but by talking about how great it feels to have a company that cares enough about providing opportunities to be healthy, that it has changed the way the people spend their "weekends".
